creating the Pollinators' Garden |
In the Arts & Technology Academy, leads our Beautifying the School program, greening the school aesthetically as well as environmentally. Arts & Technology teachers and students created the school’s pollinators’ garden and the school’s Organic Vegetable Garden. Arts & Tech science teachers connect these projects to the 8th grade science curriculum: Humans and Their Environment – Needs and Trade-Offs. Arts & Technology students in Social Studies study the NYC curriculum through films, photographs, songs, and other art forms, in addition to text-based primary and secondary documents. For example, to learn about immigrant life students explore Jacob Riis’ photographs. They analyze how these photographs triggered public action, and develop projects to effect change in the present, using photography, poetry, songs, and other art forms. |
