Humanities Academy.  Teachers and students in the sixth grade Humanities Academy develop inter-disciplinary projects that Integrate science, social studies literacy, math, and art. Students are introduced to the basic components of living sustainably in a green world. In Literacy, students explore “Finding My Sense of Place in the Green World through Literature.” In Social Studies, students study the Eastern Hemisphere through an environmental lens, exploring how the environment shaped the development of ancient civilizations and continues to shape the modern Eastern Hemisphere world. In Science, this year’s year long project involves students researching and constructing models of sustainable buildings for Earth’s various biomes, a project that integrates the city’s curriculum units: Simple And Complex Machines, Weather, Diversity Of Life, and Interdependence.
