In the Law & Government Social Studies class, students explore how the environment shaped the historical development of today’s social and political institutions. In Science, students research the components of climate change, determine causes and effects, and advocate for local actions that can make a difference. Our Law & Government Green Philanthropy Club is the school model for green civic involvement. Each year, the Philanthropy Club participates in the city’s Penny Harvest initiative, and donates the collected funds to a worthy green cause. This year, after hearing President Obama’s call for “change” and “community service,” decided to expand this work. In addition to raising money for a local food pantry, they volunteer to do community service at the site. Students learn the value and meaning of helping and caring for others. |
