The Math and Science Academy
The Math & Science Academy is our source for “Innovations in Green Living.” In Science, students are composting in their classrooms, developing methods for harvesting water, and sharing their knowledge with students around the world.

As an Urban Advantage Demonstration School, our teachers participate in the most up-to-date professional developments in the sciences, and our students have access to the resources of the American Museum of Natural History, NY Hall of Science, Queens and NY Botanical Gardens, the Bronx Zoo, and the NY Aquarium.

This year, Math & Science students are working with sixth grade Humanities students in an effort to reduce our school’s carbon footprint. Additionally, Math & Science students had the opportunities to present these green projects in multiple arenas:

 
  • YouthCan Environmental Conference at the American Museum of Natural History
  • Web Conferences with schools in Oaxaca, Mexico and Turkey.
  • Urban Advantage Expo at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH).
  • International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) at AMNH. Museum of Natural History.
 
In recognition of the work she and her students did this year, our science teacher, Stacey Lindsay, was chosen and will attend the iEARN-Morocco – 16th Annual iEARN Conference and 13th Youth Summit, July 17-27, 2009.
